Cyclo Vac retractable hose system now available exclusively through Shadow

The Hide-A-Hose inlet with integrated retractable hose allows you to use only the length of hose required at the moment, no more, no less, and to start your Cyclo Vac central vacuum cleaner directly. Nothing easier!

When finished, the suction created by the vacuum retracts the hose into the piping system installed within the walls of your home. No more hose to lug around! You will never need to put away a hose again. It’s done automatically!

The retractable hose is covered with a polyester sheath allowing it to retract smoothly, while protecting your furniture from scratches. It is available in several lengths: 30, 40 or 50 feet long.

Cyclo Vac hoses are designed for your comfort and efficiency. Likewise, our attachments such as the retractable hose system are selected for their outstanding quality and performance. Cyclo Vac, for a complete system, designed according to your needs.

Drop by our 27th street show room in Vernon to see how the retractable hose system works.

Save $50 now on flood and low temperature detection.

All of our clients are very important to us. We wanted to touch base with you to thank you all and to express our appreciation for your loyalty and the relationship you have created with Shadow. We look forward to continuing this relationship for years to come and as a way of thanking you; we are offering a $50.00 credit to be used towards the installation or expansion of low temperature and water detection.

We think that this is an important offer because water damage is that big of a problem. On average we dispatch on a flooding situation every week. In some cases our clients have been at home when the problem occurred and at other times they have been away or at work. If you have ever experienced a flood you know how much damage water can cause. In some cases our systems have simply notified our client of the problem, and in other cases they have also been used to automatically turn off the supply. With a heightened awareness, some of these same clients have called us back to extend this protection.

Furthermore, you might not be aware of the fact that with modern high efficiency furnaces, all it takes is a dirty air filter to prevent the furnace from functioning. Insurance rules have changed regarding homes left vacant for extended periods. With fire, burglary, water, and temperature monitoring it is now possible to save the cost and inconvenience of a home inspection every 72 hours.

If you find this information helpful or would like to schedule your upgrade and take advantage of these savings, please call Ricardo Smith at 250-542-5276 and mention this letter before January 15, 2011 to take advantage of this $50.00 offer.

January 12th 2010

Happy New Year, 2010 is here. What better time than now to review the different aspects of your Security System. You can do a check yourself or you can call us to book a system check.

We recommend periodic testing of your alarm to ensure that it is functioning properly.
Here are a few things you can do:

Check the different perimeter zones on your alarm using the chime feature. By turning on the chime feature, every time one of your perimeter zones is opened your keypad(s) will chime. Simply turn on the chime mode and open and close each contacted window and door one at a time. Start at your front door and work clockwise around your home to ensure no openings are missed. You may have one or two perimeter zones such as a Master Bedroom door or a deck door that won’t chime. To check these, just open them and make sure that the zone appears on your keypad.

To test the reporting of your alarm to the monitoring station, call the station and inform them that you will be testing your system. You can then arm and then trip your alarm system. Let the siren sound for at least 30 seconds before entering your code to turn off the alarm. You can then call the monitoring station to ensure that they received the signals.

We recommend checking and testing your smoke detectors weekly according to Can/ULC – S524. If we have supplied smoke detectors or your alarm is tied into existing 120V smoke detectors, it is imperative that they remain clean to ensure their effectiveness. Dust and small insects build up over time inside detectors causing false alarms. Remember to call the monitoring station to let them know that you will be testing.
Your alarm has a rechargeable backup battery to allow normal operation of your system in the event of a power outage or power loss. This battery is rated for approximately 4 years. As the performance of the battery will diminish over time, we recommend that every 4 years the battery be changed, at which point we can also check your systems operation, reporting, and charging.

You should also consider the benefits of adding H20 and low temperature sensors. Water damage by leaking or frozen pipes can be very costly and cause major amounts of damage to your home. Shadow can supply, install, and monitor water and temperature sensors to protect your home.

Call us today if you have any questions on testing your system or if you would like us to do a system evaluation for you.

Seasonal Decorations

With fall comes the season of pumpkins, Thanksgiving and “Halloween”. Some people put up decorations, and hang things that can blow around and cause motion detectors to false alarm. Our recommendation is to think this through, plan your decorating is such a way as to assure that there will be no interference with your security alarm system.

When you think about it, no alarm is an alarm unto itself. All alarms are interrelated to the others in that it is the same agency responding to them all, the RCMP. The immediate effect of false alarms these days is fines, but the bigger picture is that that police response will often be without sirens and lights which can be dangerous. False alarms can also be so plentiful that they might be anticipating “just another one,” and therefore have their guard down, thus putting them in double jeopardy.

So as you decorate, notice the placement of your motion detectors and be conscious of how and where you hang things.

Water Alarms

In the relatively short time that we have been installing water alarms, we have been shocked to discover how frequently they are set off by flooding. Our first reaction was to go from a single flood sensor to two. In some cases, we have used multiple sensors. It has now come to the point where we are now advising our clients to consider having a water shut off solenoid installed.

A water shut off solenoid on the incoming water line will reduce the amount of water available to do damage by cutting off the water supply once the sensor has detected a problem. One of our clients had a water problem just two weeks after connecting his solenoid so the water sensor. In his case the payback was rather immediate. Ask your insurance agent and they will tell you that the cause of the biggest claim pay outs comes from water damage. It is worth considering for your home.

Mike Hovland Re-joins the Shadow Team

Shadow is pleased to announce the return of Mike Hovland. After a 3 year absence while going it on his own as MDH Systems, Mike has chosen to return to Shadow. We are so pleased to have him back on the team.

Working here will free Mike up from the hours of paper work he had to put in after a hard day's work. He plans to use this freedom to do ministry at his Church, with a long range goal of turning that into a full time ministry position. We don't know how long Mike will remain with us, but as long as he is here, we will all be blessed by his winning ways and dedication.

While he was on his own, Mike tried a few new things, learned some lessons and gained a fresh perspective. We are anxious to work some of his new ideas into the services that we offer our clients.
